I’m Jen, a multi-faceted creative director, designer, artist and writer passionate about visual communication and artistic expression that connects, effects and inspires.
My empathetic, sensitive nature rivalled by my propensity for practical, efficient technical execution allows me to adapt my aesthetic to serve the unique needs of every client, creative brief and project medium. While my multi-purpose, adaptive work approach serves several visual communication objectives, I am continually evolving and challenging myself to define my authentic, distinguishable artistic style—stay tuned.
Balanced contrast might best define my ideal creative work approach—and also represent my personality. I find harmony when messaging and emotion-invoking imagery are juxtaposed with contrasting visual elements that enhance the expressive totality of a design or work of art.
Experience + Background
With over 15 years of communication, direction, art, design, copywriting and creative production experience, working contract with over 50 different clients combined with periodic in-house marketing team staff roles (in publishing, paper giftware and packaging, engineering, education and recreation), I have enjoyed several unique opportunities to develop my expertise and contribute my vision to a variety of extraordinary creative endeavours.
My creative portfolio includes a host of different technical mediums and materials: print and digital design; logos and brand identity; social media and online advertising; dimensional drafting; photo editing; video and audio production; illustration; painting; writing and editing.
Among the former, my responsibilities have spanned several creative roles: creative director; production artist; copywriter, ghostwriter and editor; print job manager; project manager, planner and analyst; communication and advertising strategist; media liaison and ad spot purchaser; project budget, contract and accounts manager.
A self-proclaimed ‘Jen of all trades’, I have an invested interest in expanding my operating knowledge of innovative, technical applications and creative tools. While my initial education is from the University of Alberta (Bachelor of Visual Communications and Design), my pursuit for continual training and professional development led me to MacEwan University (updating my skills with a Web Design, Social Media and Analytics Certificate, 2015). And later, my inherent curiosity for architecture and ‘anything with a blue-print’ sent me to NAIT (accomplishing an AutoCad Operator Drafting Certificate, 2016)…just because.
